    Record of Service: 

     

    Frederick Thornton was born about 1892 in Warracknabeal, Victoria. He was working as a Farm Hand when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 17th of October 1916. He was allocated service number 6897 and embarked from Melbourne with the 19th Reinforcements, 21st Battalion on the 11th of May 1917. 

     

    Frederick disembarked at Devonport on the 20th of July 1917 and proceeded overseas to France on the 9th of April 1918. He was taken on strength with the 5th Machine Gun Battalion on the 16th of April 1918. 

     

    Frederick survived the war and returned to Australia on the 3rd of May 1919. He died on the 4th of May 1945.
