Record of Service:
Alfred Pegler was born on the 7th of September 1896 in Norwood, South Australia. He was working as a Clerk when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 4th of October 1915. Alfred was allocated service number 2056 and embarked from Adelaide on the 10th of February 1916 with the 14th Reinforcements, 3rd Light Horse Regiment.
Prior to embarking Alfred attended the Signallers School at Mitcham and after arriving in Egypt was taken on strength with the 4th Division Ammunition Column on the 21st of April 1916. On the 6th of June he proceeded to join the BEF and disembarked at Marseilles on the 13th of June 1916. On the 8th of August he was promoted to Bombardier and on the 31st of October 1917 was admitted to hospital (Trench Fever).
Alfred returned to Australia for a change on the 15th of April 1918 and was discharged M.U from the 4 M.D on the 2nd of August 1918.
Alfred served during WW2 as a Lieutenant (S31353) with the A.A.O.D. He died on the 5th of February 1969.
