    Record of Service:

     

    John Plenty was born on the 12th of March 1944 in Millicent, South Australia. John enlisted in the ARA on the 31st of May 1962 and was allocated service number 42947. Following basic training at Kapooka, he was posted to the School of Artillery on the 20th of September 1962.

     

    In November 1963 John served in Malaysia with the 102nd Field Battery, including service on the Thai/Malaysia border. He embarked for Kuching and operations in Sarawak during the Indonesian Confrontation on the 30th of April 1965. He joined A Field Battery on the 20th of October 1965 and returned to Australia on the 19th of June 1966.

     

    John was promoted to Bombardier on the 26th of July 1966 and Sergeant on the 14th of July 1969. On the 29th of April 1970 he emplaned from Brisbane for Saigon and operations Nui Dat, South Vietnam with 107th Battery, 4th Field Regiment. He returned to Sydney on the 21st of April 1971.

     

    John was promoted to Staff Sergeant on the 25th of April 1976 and was posted to the 1st Field Regiment as a Warrant Officer Class Two on the 5th of December 1977. He discharged as a Warrant Officer Class Two on the 31st of January 1883.

     

    Of note, John’s father, Herbert Clarence Plenty served in the RAAF during WW2 and was awarded the DFC and Bar.
