    Record of Service: 

     

    William Bennett was born on the 26th of March 1929 in Rokewood, Victoria. 

     

    William served in the Korean War with the 3rd Battalion Royal Australian Regiment from the 11th of November 1951 to the 10th of November 1952. His service dossier is yet to be accessed through the NAA site, however he is listed as Wounded in Action in Neil Smith’s book, “Home by Christmas.” There is also a newspaper article from the Melbourne Herald on the 27th of November 1951 listing him as one of “Two Wounded in Korea.” 

     

    William served in the Vietnam War with the 4/19th Prince of Wales Light Horse, RAAC from the 27th of May 1965 to the 1st of July 1965 and then with the 1st Armoured Personnel Carrier Troop until the 20th of April 1966. 

     

    William was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in April 1968 and the Meritorious Service Medal in November 1973. He was awarded the Defence Force Service Medal in April 1985.
