Herbert Ebdon was born on the 18th of October 1932 in Audenshaw, Lancashire, UK. He entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on the 16th of March 1948. He was allocated Official Number D/SSX 843632 and served with the R.N until the 17th of October 1959.
Herbert emigrated with his wife and family to Australia on the 26th of February 1964 and arrived in Adelaide on the 26th of March 1964. He entered the Royal Australian Navy, for a six-year engagement, on the 11th of May 1964. He was allocated Official Number 63450 and rated as an AB Radar Plotter. He was promoted to LSRP on the 8th of January 1965 and PORP on the 1st of September 1968.
Herbert spent the majority of his time in the RAN on HMAS Melbourne and at HMAS Watson. At this time HMAS Melbourne was involved in Strategic Reserve and South East Asia deployments related to the Confrontation and Vietnam War.
Herbert died in Manum, South Australia on the 1st of June 2006.
