    Arthur Mills was born about 1872 in Holbeck, Leeds, Yorkshire. He was working as a Waiter when he joined the Royal Warwickshire Regiment (RWR) on the 11th of July 1891. On enlistment Arthur stated that he had previous military service with the 3rd West Yorkshire Regiment. He was allocated service number 3327 and joined the 1st Battalion, RWR on the 2nd of October 1891.

     

    Arthur served in Ceylon from the 18th of December 1892 to the 18th of March 1896, Malta from the 19th of March 1896 to the 20th of January 1897 and Egypt from the 21st of January 1897 to the 28th of October 1898. Whilst serving in Egypt Arthur fought with the 1st Battalion RWR, in the Battle of Khartoum.

     

    On the 30th of October 1898 he transferred to the Army Reserve, but with the outbreak of the Boer War this was short lived. He was recalled to the colours on the 15th of February 1900. He was transferred from the 2nd Battalion to the 4th Battalion on the 10th of March 1900. He did not serve in South Africa and was discharged on the 7th of July 1903.
