    Record of Service:

     

    Doreen Cohen was born on the 14th of April 1924 in Brisbane, Queensland. Doreen was working as a Machinist when she enlisted in the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force on the 15th of July 1942. She was allocated service number 100416 and joined the WAAAF training depot as a Trainee Cook.

     

    After qualifying as a Cook on the 18th of November 1942, Doreen was posted to HQ Bradfield Park on the 29th of November 1942. On the 18th of August 1943 she was posted to 2ITS and promoted to Corporal on the 1st of December 1943. On the 20th of January 1944 she was posted to 3AD at Amberley and discharged from the WAAAF on the 25th of February 1946.

     

    Doreen did not claim her medals and General Service Badge until July 1991. The medals are named in the ugly rim to rim style burr engraving which is correct for this period. (This engraving style often seen on the first issue 1975- AASM and ASM’s of the early 1990’s).
