Record of Service:
William Pittendreigh was born on the 11th of March 1896 in Brisbane, Queensland. He was working as a Groom when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 15th of June 1915. William was allocated service number 1655 and embarked from Brisbane with the 2nd Reinforcements, 26th Battalion on the 17th of August 1915.
William was taken on strength with the 26th Battalion at Gallipoli on the 12th of October 1915 where he served until, he was evacuated on the 12th of December 1915 suffering from Jaundice and Trench Feet. On the 5th of February 1916 he rejoined the Battalion and proceeded to join the BEF in France on the 15th of March 1916.
On the 3rd of July 1916 he was Wounded in Action (bullet wound to nose). Recovering from his wounds he rejoined the Battalion on the 2nd of August 1916. On the 4th of October 1917 he was Wounded in Action (2nd Occ. GSW arm). On the 11th of June 1918 he was Wounded in Action (3rd Occ. Shell concussion). On the 8th of August 1918 he was Wounded in Action (4th Occ. GSW eye and jaw).
William survived the war and returned to Australia on the 8th of November 1918. He died in Queensland on the 2nd of October 1928. He had two brothers who also fought during WW1, 13634 John Fraser Pittendreigh and 5367 James Fraser Pittendreigh.
