Record of Service:
Thomas Miller was born about 1900 in Sydney, New South Wales. He was working as a Chemist when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 14th of June 1918. He was allocated service number 66035 and embarked from Sydney with the 19th General Service Reinforcements on the 4th of September 1918.
Thomas was taken on strength with the 4th Battalion on the 28th of January 1919 and served with the Burial Detachment from the 23rd of March 1919. He returned to Australia on the 17th of August 1919 and discharged from the 2 M.D on the 2nd of December 1919.
In 1930 Thomas married Gladys Wagner in Sydney and was working as a Factory Assistant when he volunteered to join the 2nd A.I.F on the 11th of April 1940. He was allocated service number NX11922 and embarked from Sydney with the 2/3rd Battalion Reinforcements on the 30th of August 1940.
Thomas disembarked in Palestine on the 30th of September 1940 and was taken on strength with the 2/3rd Battalion on the 18th of October 1940. In January 1941 the 2/3rd Battalion took part in the advance against the Italians in Eastern Libya with successful attacks in Bardia and Tobruk.
On the 18th of March 1941 Thomas embarked for services in Greece however he was evacuated (suffering from Dysentery) and transferred to the X list on the 17th of April 1941. On the 17th of July 1941 he transferred to the 7th Australian General Hospital Staff.
Thomas spent the last few months of 1942 in and out of hospital suffering from Dysentery related illness and returned to Australia on the 27th of February 1943.
Thomas transferred to the 128 Australian General Hospital on the 4th of September 1943 and served with them in New Guinea from December 1943 until August 1944. On the 18th of December 1944 Thomas transferred to the 2/1st Australian Field Ambulance and served in New Guinea with them from the 29th of December 1944 until the 7th of August 1945. He discharged on the 14th of September 1945.
