Record of Service:
William Johnson was born on the 12th of March 1916 in Queensland. He served with the Australian army during WW2 and was allocated service number Q273994. As his service dossier is yet to be accessed through the NAA site his exact service details are unknown.
What is known is that he served with the 25th Infantry Battalion as a Permanent Military Staff member, service number QP8673. He also served with the British Commonwealth Occupational Forces post WW2 and is listed with service number 1/4506 on the Index of Queensland Army Personnel to serve with BCOF.
William received the Australian Efficiency Medal in February 1949 as a Warrant Officer Class II, serving at Head Quarters Northern Command. Listed in the CAG 3.02.1949. He was awarded the Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in January 1966 as a Warrant Officer Class I, serving with the Royal Australian Infantry. Listed in the CAG 27.01.1966.
Following his discharge from the army William worked as a School Master and is noted on the 1972 Electoral Roll as residing at the Gap, Queensland. He died on the 22nd of July 2000.
